Program Helios II

In collaboration with the Associação Paços 2000, the OSCSC has participated in the Program Helios II. This program set forth to change mentalities and fight for a complete rehabilitation and integration of the persons with disabilities in society. In order to attain this goal the Helios program proposed several policies in order to remove not only physical and architectonic barriers, but also in order to change psychological barriers present in all sorts of prejudice against disabled people.

This prejudice can only lead to enormous difficulties for the persons with disabilities, present in all sorts of ways: intellectual, perceptive, linguistic and others. The consequences of this prejudice in the individuals self-esteem is obvious.

The international contacts and the guide of good policies provided through the Helios Program helped as well and inspired us to create our on project to aid and support disabled people in Paços de Ferreira, thus the Hermes Project was created.
